There are several reasons women choose to undergo a breast lift. The main reason is to correct loose or sagging breasts. This could be caused by fluctuations in weight, pregnancy, loss of skin elasticity, gravity, or aging.
The procedure is done by removing portions of skin in strategic locations and then reshaping the breast tissue. This allows for the entire breast to be firmer and perkier once they have healed. A breast lift does leave scars on the breasts. There are different types or variations of surgical lifts. The most common is one that results in an anchor shaped scar. A scar is left around the nipple, vertically from the nipple to the bottom crease, and one along the bottom crease. Thus, an anchor shape. A few patients are candidates to undergo what is known as a lollipop version; the same scarring just without the one along the bottom crease. In any of the versions of surgical lifts, the areola is made smaller to go along with the new breast shape.

What type of anesthesia is used?
General anesthesia is administered by a board certified anesthesiologist via an IV.
How long does the procedure last?
Surgery time is approximately 2 hours. You will arrive 30 minutes prior to surgery, and you will be in the recovery room after the surgery.
What will it feel like when I wake up?
Most patients complain of tightness and/or discomfort in the chest. This is normal. You will be given some pain medications during and after the surgery to keep you comfortable.
When can I eat after surgery?
You will need to eat/drink something prior to taking your oral medications. As soon as you are ready to do so, you may.
In what position should I sleep?
We recommend sleeping on a few pillows with your head propped up. You may not be comfortable on your side or back for several weeks/days after surgery.
When can I tan?
Tanning is not permitted for two weeks after surgery. After two weeks you may tan, but it is recommended to cover the scars for one full year from any exposure. Early exposure can cause the scars to become a dark color forever.
When can I exercise?
No physical exertion is permitted for two weeks after surgery. Once you begin an exercise regimen, you must listen to your body. If it hurts or causes swelling, don’t do it.
When can I wear an underwire bra?
This varies with each patient. On average it will be a least one month before doing so. For most patients, it’s best to wait at least three months before buying any expensive bras.
Do the sutures dissolve?
Yes. The steri strips should be removed at about two weeks after surgery.
When can I drive?
Driving is permitted as long as you are not under the influence of medications.
I feel burning and pressure, is this normal?
Yes, this is very common. Until everything heals it will continue to occur. This could be several weeks.
I have different sensations in my nipples, is this normal?
Yes, it is very common to experience different nipple sensations the first several weeks after surgery. This will get better over time.
I have numbness by my scars, is this normal?
This is common. The scar itself may never have feeling, but the areas around it will regain feeling over time.
